WWDC forecast: A lot about Apple’s operating systems, little too KI?

On June 9th the time has come: Apple invites you to this year’s developer conference World Wide Developers Conference. At WWDC 2025 there is a lot at stake for the iPhone manufacturer: he wants to show progress in all of his operating systems, ward off notes when it comes to AI and at the same time demonstrate that you are not suspended towards Openai, Google Gemini and Co. However, the question is whether this succeeds.

A report of the usually well informed Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman According to the subject, the topic of AI could even appear less. The central topic on the WWDC 2025 is the new interface of iOS 19, MacOS 16 and Ipados 19, which is said to also skip the other operating systems such as TVOS 19, Watchos 12 and Visionos 3.

With its “glassy” look, the operating system of the Vision Pro is probably the role model for the changes that the systems should first bring together and secondly refreshed. Gurman compares the redesign with iOS 7 when Apple modernized his entire look on the cell phone. Only “solarium”, as Apple calls the redesign internally, is “significantly broader”. According to Gurman, Apple could collect criticism here: The group may lead to changes in the wrong corner. Because many companies in AI see a replacement for previous operating systems. “In contrast, Apple focuses on making the traditional approach more elegant.”

When it comes to Apple Intelligence, Apple will show some, but probably not too much progress. For example, a voice-based siri (“llm siri”) should not be released before 2026 or even 2027. Announced functions for the voice assistance system, including personalization based on the iPhone data, reading out the screen and the control of apps by Siri, could appear in the coming year at the latest. Whether Apple says something remains unclear.

It has already been reported that the group is planning to open its AI system directly to developers in the form of APIs so that they can use the language models in their apps. That could be free-in contrast to the high costs at Openai, Anthropic and Co. However, the Apple models are still significantly behind the competition. It is also planned in terms of AI that iOS 19 gets better battery management process, especially for the iPhone 17 Air, which should only receive a small battery, as the rumor kitchen claims.
