WWDC: Disappointing when it comes to Apple-KI?

Apple’s developer conference WWDC 2025 starts in just one week. A report of the Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman According to the event, however, the event will fail “Smaller-Scale”, that is, smaller than in previous years: Since Apple has little new to show with regard to AI, Apple should focus primarily on the redesign of its operating systems. For comparison: in 2023 Apple presented its first AR headset Vision Pro, in 2024 the (afterwards disappointing) Apple intelligence software came.

Actually, Apple would have to show fresh features for the anniversary of Apple Intelligence, after Google recently put on a shovel again when it comes to Gemini. Meanwhile, Openai cooperates with Apple’s ex-design chief Jony Ive and paid him billions in business shares for still unknown hardware development. Apple, on the other hand, has to offer only simple text generators, below-average image generators, summaries and other AI cuts. Improvements at Siri, where Apple had had to add up for a long time, will only come later.

According to Gurman, however, the WWDC 2025 will be “disappointing in terms of AI”. According to Insider, the planned announcements could even ensure that Apple could “become” even more striking “problems with Apple Intelligence and Siri. It was only at WWDC 2026 Apple wanted to show again that one was an “Ai Innovator”. The most important AI announcement is that Apple opens its on-device-Ki models for developers-which, however, have long since had a large selection of the competition. Then there should be AI functions for the battery management and translation functions for AirPods. After all, Apple Ki features in Safari and photos can also name, i.e. an “Ai-Powered” rebranding, says Gurman.

And so at the WWDC 2025, Apple should otherwise rely primarily on said redesign including renaming its operating systems. A MacOS 15 is supposed to follow a MacOS 26, an iOS 18. The other systems such as watchos, TVOS and visionos may also get such a rebranding so that users see faster whether they are up to date. In addition, the surfaces are to be adjusted more closely. However, many users wonder how necessary this is. They hoped to reduce the development of development, including bug fixing. Now Apple should be even more forced to update annually, if only so that the version number does not outdate.

Meanwhile, Gurman has another news: In his newsletter from the weekend, he continues that Macos 26 is probably named after the Bergsee Lake Taoe, i.e. MacOS 26 Tahoe. The naming according to a known place suggests that the update is particularly important for Apple. When it comes to hardware, Gurman sees hardly any innovation potential for the WWDC 2025, and new devices are said not yet available for performance.
