Which iPhones iOS 19 will no longer be tolerated – leak

Most recently, Apple had made it easy for iPhone users when changing the operating system: On all devices that had supported iOS 17, the iOS 18, which was released in September 2024. With the transition to iOS 19, the compatibility will apparently no longer be as wide. At least three iPhones that are still “can” iOS 18 should fall out of support. At least this is claiming a leaker on X, which was correct in the past.

The anonymous person, about their information The Apple Blog 9to5mac This week reported, writes that the devices of the 2018 vintage will not be iOS-19-capable. Apple would have provided her with updates for a total of seven years. Accordingly, iPhone XR, iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max. These are the successors of the iPhone X series from 2017, the first model with full display and “Notch” notification for selfie camera and face ID face recognition.

The A12 Bionic SoC ran in all three devices. XS and XS Max were the standard models, the XR the entry-level model (“Budget Flagship”) of the 12th iPhone generation. Furthermore, all iPhones from generation 11, plus the entry -level models SE 2 and SE 3 of 2020 and 2022 are said to be supported. It had the still older A10 fusion chip.

It is unclear why Apple would start the cut on the A10 Fusion or A12 Bionic. The group may believe that the devices for the expected iOS-19 redesign alias “solarium” are no longer fast enough.

Previously, however, there had been different rumors from the French Apple website iPhonesoft. There it was said iOS 19 will continue to remain compatible with all devices, which iOS 18 dominate – including XS, XS Max and XR. However, 9to5mac points out that the X-source was often correct than iPhonesoft. There, the support of iOS 15 had been wrongly predicted – two models were not lost despite the corresponding claim. Apple still places Security updates for older iPhone models after. However, these usually do not cover all existing gaps – they are always only stuffed in the latest version.
