Anyone who hopes that Apple will launch fresh over-ear headphones promptly, which replace the long-not revised Airpods-Max models. Bloomberg author Mark Gurman assumes this in his newsletter from Sunday. According to the sales figures, Apple does not see a duty to develop a new model due to the sales figures.
Freshly colored and USB-C-is it that?
The over-ears are “too popular to no longer sell them, but not popular enough, so that (Apple) invests a lot of time and money in creating a new version”. You can see the devices that still cost 579 euros at Apple in large cities. “Depending on where they live, they seem to be quite popular,” said Gurman. Even in expensive fitness centers, you can count 20 to 30 people who wear the devices – although she did not allow Apple for sport at all.
Nevertheless, Gurman, who usually has good contacts inside the iPhone group, did not hear any of the fact that something is happening again. Apple only launched the USB-C version last year-but mainly due to the EU requirements that devices must now have USB-C. However, Apple had given the headphones a new function-USB audio including Lossless support. There were also some new colors.
In-ear runs better than over-ear
According to Gurman, however, the Airpods Max remain in a “commercially strange corner”. It makes more sense for the group’s audio team if this takes care of the much more popular in-ear air pods-as well as speakers and microphones in other products. The Bloomberg reporter also believes that AirPods such as the standard and pro models may appear annually in the future.
For Airpods-Max fans that mean that they would have to wait further. “Ultimately, it took half a decade until there was a real upgrade for the original model.” For an Apple product, this is a “remarkably long time”. The next thing Apple is probably planning for Airpods Pro 3-presumably with heart rate sensor-and AirPods 5. Before 2026 or even 2027, no new MAX models are expected.
