Voiceover: People with visual impairment complain about problems in iOS 26

Apple has admitted errors in iOS 26 that ensure that the popular Voiceover function can fail. The screen reader feature is used in particular by visually impaired people, but is also becoming increasingly popular among people without disabilities because the iPhone can be controlled without looking. But after the import of iOS 26, it happens that there is no longer any voice output. This happens on the lock screen and after a restart of the device-i.e. when biometry is not usable and you would have to enter the device pin.

This means that visually impaired people are locked out of the device very practically. In addition to the iPhone, there is also problem reports from the iPad with iPados 26, writes the well -known website Appleviswhich collects resources for visually impaired with Apple devices. However, it cannot be said at the moment whether the error has to do with the model of the iPhone or iPad, previously installed software or hardware extensions in the accessibility area. It is not regularly understandable-so it has not yet been experienced by the Applevis team himself.

So far, it can be heard that VoiceOVER turns out immediately after the iOS-26 installation, but sometimes only after a reboot after a while. It also occurred that Voiceover had simply turned off after the update – even that is extremely annoying because, as a visually impaired, you then need help a sighted person. In addition, Voiceover is often normal again after unlocking. A connection with the update seems to exist, because after that the error does not seem to appear even after new reboots. Of course, this does not help if you stay locked out at first.

At the moment there is no direct remedy-except to deactivate biometry and device pin before restarting so that you can handle the lock screen. However, this is unsightly in terms of safety and should be corrected again immediately after the successful reboot (and (again) active voiceover). After all, there are reports of success after deleting the device via “Where is?”, But that takes a long time and you have to have a backup ready beforehand in order not to lose any data.

According to Apple, Apple has now contacted the page and confirms that the problem is known. It will be fixed with an upcoming software update. It is currently unclear how long it takes. iOS 26.0.1 However, it seems to be in preparation for Apple. It should also fix a camera problem in connection with iPhone Air and 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max.
