Apple works on new gestures for the Vision Pro, which can be triggered with your own eyes. The headset, which is already a lot of praised eye tracking, therefore gets an update with Visionos 3: like that Financial news agency Bloomberg writes, it should be possible for the first time to scroll with your eyes. So the hands could stay down, finger gestures would then be unnecessary in this case.
Just do everything with your eyes
Visionos is already fully on the tracking of the eyes. You look at the area with which you want to interact and then trigger an action with a finger gesture – for example by merging index fingers and thumb. The operation quickly turns into flesh and blood. When scrolling texts or other screens, this combination is also necessary: look at a window, “click” with your finger and then pull down and up in the air. This can be a bit uncomfortable, for example when reading longer texts.
With Visionos 3, which will probably be released in September, eyetracking should now become even more powerful. Apparently it is planned that you just have to look at a window or a text area so that the content shifts with a look. Internal tests are currently underway with the feature called Eye scrolling. It could be shown for the first time in the coming month at Apple’s developer conference WWDC 2025, which will start on June 9 as a virtual event.
Continuous further development in Visionos
According to Bloomberg, eye scrolling will work in all apps developed by Apple-but probably also in all other visionos applications, as it should become a standard feature. Apple is already working internally at necessary interfaces. Visionos 3 also expected other new functions that have not yet been leaked through. The product is continuously developed, although the headset does not seem to be a commercial hit. Apple sees it as the basis for a “real” augmented reality glasses, which is at the top of the agenda of CEO Tim Cook.
Eye scrolling would be a new feature for Apple: on iPhone and iPad, where eye control is also possible, the function does not yet exist. Apple recently rebuilt its vision-pro group because an important manager should help out at Siri.
