Vision Pro as a “Air” model: half as heavy and half as expensive?

A significantly improved vision per – or an optimized successor model – is only to be expected in 2027. The well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo from the Taiwanese investment house TF International Securities assumes this. In his last report to investors he calls the device “Vision Air” and makes speculation about price and weight – the decisive factors for future sales success. At the moment, the headset costs at least 4000 euros and, depending on the headband or upholstery, weighs up to 650 grams without battery, so it is too uncomfortable in the long run.

Kuo thinks that the vision air will be “over 40 percent lighter” and “more than 50 percent cheaper” than the Vision Pro. The price and weight would have halved about. Therefore, Apple 2027 will also be able to sell one million units, Kuo forecast. To date, deliveries are said to have been less than 400,000, the production has already been discontinued.

The supplier is to include the company General Interface Solution (GIS) from Taiwan, a specialist in the processing of ultra -small glasses. At the moment GIS is already laminating elements of the Vision Pro, even with their direct successor with M5-SoC, this should continue to be the case this year. According to Kuo, GIS is the only finer to deliver the so-called pancake lenses for the Vision Air. The vertical integration helps with the lamination business.

In the meantime, Apple is relying on a stubborn resale of the old model. The headset is still not available via resellers – except used on eBay. Nothing has changed in the price either: the 256 GB version costs 3999 euros, 4249 euros with 512 GB and 4499 euros with 1 TB. In addition, there may be paid plants from Zeiss, which has also been ordered in Germany since summer of last year.

Apple complements the software side with regular updates. So, probably this month, Visionos 26 will soon be released. Among other things, it provides freely placed widgets, clearly prettier avatars (personas) and support for Sonys-VR controller, which, however, still cannot be bought individually.
