“Vision Air” and “iPhone 20”: New screen technology conceivable

Apple could use so-called COE screens for the first time by 2027. The “Color Filter on Encapsulation” procedure promises a combination of the light emitting layer and the RGB color filter, which are currently still separated in OLEDs. The summary allows both physically thinner and lighter screens. Apple could use it both in the “iPhone 20”, which is planned for the 20th birthday of the smartphone line in the year after next, as well as in a more compact successor model of the Vision Pro (“Vision Air”).

According to a report by the Etnews electronics service from South Korea Samsung may be Apple’s supplier. The group’s display subsidiary has been supplying various devices with screens for many years together with LG Display (also South Korea) and Boe (China). The new OLEDs are also based on a new Samsung material called M14, whose light output should be larger than with previous OLEDs.

Etnews continues that Samsung will initially install M14 COE displays in the S26 Ultra, which is planned in 2026. The S26 Pro and S26 Edge models are said to keep the older M13 material. Coe is already used by Samsung in foldables-allegedly already since the fold3 from 2021. However, the transfer to standard smartphones has so far been difficult-apparently due to space reasons. Samsung Display was therefore a time horizon of half a decade for implementation.

An informed person announced to Etnews that Samsung intends to specifically emphasize the COE usage in the S26 Ultra in order to tell that the technology has been had the technology before Apple in the first top devices. It remains to be seen how big the difference to current OLEDs is.

The core material, the so -called black pixel definition film (PDL), comes from the supplier Deoksan Neoluxalso from South Korea. Apple is currently using Sony Displays in Vision Pro. It is still unclear whether Coe will also come from LG and Sony. The “Vision Air” should make the Vision Pro much lighter and more portable than the current model. When it appears concrete is not yet leaked – it could even be later than 2027.
