Vibe coding in Xcode: Apple cooperates with Anthropic

Apple apparently wants to integrate more AI functions into Xcode. There should be a cooperation with the LLM provider Anthropic, reports the Economic news agency Bloomberg. The idea is therefore to implement so-called vibe coding functions in Apple’s in-house developer package. With vibe coding, programs can be created by reporting to a AI system, which you would like to see. The technology is now being used by both programming entrants and more and more professionals to be given inspiration.

Initially just internally?

According to Bloomberg, Xcode is supposed to use the Claude Sonnet language model from Anthropic. It is supposedly planned to only implement the functionality internally. It is still unclear whether there is a marketing to the development public. At first, Apple wants to improve its internal workflow and “accelerate and modernize software development”, as it was said.

The iPhone manufacturer is based on AI coding aids such as those of Anysphere (cursor) and windsurf. At first, Apple is said to have not planned to use AI tools for software development-at least for programs that should go to the outside world. The resistance has now been due to the improvement of large LLMs.

Coding aid Swift Assist is still missing

Apple had already announced its own Coding Aid based on AI base last summer. Swift assist should be part of Xcode, but it has still not been released. The reason is obviously that the product is still too hallucinated, i.e. invented information. According to Bloomberg, there were even concerns internally that Swift Assist is rather slowing down the development than accelerating it.

The cooperation with Anthropic now suggests that Apple is also looking for help from outside, whereby it is conceivable that Claude technology is combined with Swift Assist. Neither Anthropic nor Apple wanted to comment on the report. Apple had recently had to postpone new Siri functions for Apple Intelligence and converted its management in the AI ​​area. The long-time boss was partially disempowered for the machine learning and AI segment and a manager was brought to the management position from the vision team.
