US President Trump has again asked Apple to manufacture iPhones in the United States and build works there-and not only shift other parts of the production from China to India. He had “a little problem” with Apple boss Tim Cook, said Trump At a press conference in Qatar. He has already “tolerated all of these works” that Apple has built in China over the years – the story should not be repeated in India now. Instead, Apple has to bring production to the USA.
At the beginning of the year, the group has promised an investment of $ 500 billion in the home market. However, this does not include a serious shift in production. Apple will increase that again, Trump remarked vaguely. Apple himself has not yet commented on this.
Apple is increasingly on India when making iPhone production
Because of the punitive tariffs on goods in China in the meantime, Apple has apparently significantly expanded the final production of iPhones in India. In the current business district, the manufacturer can almost completely cover the US demand with iPhones from India, Cook recently explained to financial analysts. According to a report, the group wants to be able to let all iPhones run off the assembly line for the US market in India by the end of 2026.
For a long time, it has become apparent that Apple’s dependence on the production site of China is becoming an increasingly serious problem. Cook is now also between the chairs: the shift of iPhone end assembly to India is not only considered suspicious in the United States, but also in China: Apple’s projects are blocked there as far as possible. For the current quarter, Apple estimates that the current tariffs could cost the group around $ 900 million. According to a report, price increases are already under discussion for the iPhone 17 series. A significant relocation of huge iPhone production to the USA is currently considered unlikely-it would be an extremely expensive project that would take many years. Apart from the huge final production, numerous Apple suppliers are also in China.
Criticism of Apple’s relationship with China
With the establishment of its production and huge supply chain China, Apple ultimately only made a high-tech nation, currently criticizes a Financial-Times journalist in a newly published book “Apple in China”. This has transferred massive technology and know-how to there without changing more democracy. Ultimately, China had become a production giant that could not only roll up the global smartphone market but also other markets from behind in electric cars. Apple described the book Compared to Vanity Fair As “untrue” and with “inaccuracies”.
