To Bugfix: Bitch Mesh by Jack Dorsey now in the App Store

Jack Dorsey’s most recent project, the safe and network -independent Messenger Bitchat Mesh, has been for the first time since this week In the App Store for the iPhone to have. The application can also be installed on Macs, but initially remained unclear whether it runs on this platform as on mobile devices.

The basic idea of Bitchat Mesh is not necessarily new-app providers had previously tried to establish peer-to-peer messengers based on the Bluetooth short-haul protocol Bluetooth (here specifically: BLE), for example Briar. Dorsey, once a Twitter founder, who also built Bluesky, is now hoping for a greater market penetration due to its range. The basic idea behind Bitchat Mesh under similar systems: Instead of using the Internet (via WLAN or mobile radio) for forwarding messages, a (quasi) uncensable Bluetooth mesh network is tense from device to device that can work offline.

However, this only works if there are enough devices on which the application runs. An example in which a similar system works excellently is Apple’s “Where is?” Find network, which, however, benefits from the enormously strong iPhone penetration (plus iPads and Macs). Bitchat Mesh is visually withdrawn-it comes in the green terminal style.

The app offers various safety functions, including the possibility of verifying users by code. No telephone number or email is required, but initially creates an anonymous account. The messages are encrypted. A “panic mode” allows all data to be deleted directly, Dorsey also does not promise any tracking.

Anyone who has already installed Bitchat Mesh should make sure to update on version 1.1.1. Only this establishes an adequate connection to Android devices, the version of which already A little longer available is. If you are interested in the project, you will find the source code Github. Now it is important to wait and see how quickly Bitchat Mesh spreads – without a network effect, little to nothing goes here as mentioned.
