USB sticks, hard drives, folders or documents sometimes have special icons. Can I change them myself?
You can take any photo in the .jpg or .png format and connect it to a volume, a folder or a file.
To do this, click the picture in the finder with the right mouse button and select “Copy” from the context menu. Then click on the target object and select “Information” from the “Information” stagema. Then click on the existing icon at the top left and select “Insert” from the editing menu. MacOS calculates high -resolution images to a smaller size.
If you want to release objects for the folder image, you can do this from MacOS Ventura directly in the finder. Click the image with the right mouse button and select “Remove the background” from the context menu.
In the information windows you can also transfer icons from one object to another. For example, if you format a USB stick and replace the system of its icon, you can secure the icon by copying it to an empty folder before formatting. Then transfer it back to the USB stick in the same way.
If you only want to color or decorate folders with symbols, the upcoming MacOS 26 TAHOO offers a comfortable dialogue that makes image processing with copy & paste superfluous. Alternatively, tools work like Folder Colorizer Pro (4 euros) also with older systems.
