Tip: Reload artist photos in the music app

I manage my albums locally in the MacOS music app. Since a system change, almost all photos have been missing in the view “Artists: Inside”. There is much more to be seen on the old Mac. What can I do?

Since the artist photos, unlike the cover pictures, are not part of the metadata in the audio files, the music app receives them directly from Apple.

However, this only happens if you automatically update the option for imported titles in the settings under “Advanced” under “Extended”.

The function is actually intended to recharge the album cover for freshly imported media if the metadata is missing.

As soon as you turn it on and confirm with “OK”, music independently loads the photos of the artists even without a new import. It takes some time and not for everyone there is a motif. Labels or musicians have to do this At Apple itself submit.

If interpreters are named differently than at Apple Music, the app cannot load a picture either. However, this can be corrected by changing the metadata. As an artist is called at Apple and whether a picture is stored, it is best to beat via music.apple.com For example in Safari.

Tip: Name artists only in the “Title” view, because otherwise the music app tends to confuse the album assignment of individual tracks in the representation. In the title view with Command + B, activate the column browser to quickly get to all the albums of an interpreter. Click a track and press Command + A to select all titles.

With Command + I you open the metadata editor to adapt the fields “Artists: In” and “Album artist: in” to the spelling of Apple Music. If you only want to change the capitalization, you have to prescribe the text in another program or the Spotlight window and then insert into the music app via Copy & Paste. Apple’s media player always returns to the old spelling in manual entries.
