Tip: Connect external USB-C-SSD to Lightning iPhone

How can I connect an SSD to my iPhone? Unfortunately, it is not recognized on my iPhone 13 Pro via a Lightning-to-USB-C cable. I have already tried different file systems.

Only USB 2.0 lies on the Lightning port of the iPhone. However, the electricity provided by it is often not enough to cover the need for an external SSD or hard drive. Therefore, a USB-C-on-lightning cable is the wrong way.

In such cases, Apple recommends using its own Lightning-AUSB-3 camera adapter and infecting the SSD on it. The adapter itself has installed a Lightning connection so that it can be connected to a power supply via Lightning cable. As a result, the external media usually get enough electricity.

There are also cheaper third -party adapters with whom this can work. Pay attention to the name “Lightning OTG Adapter” (OTG stands for on the go) and make sure that the adapter has a USB-3 port and a Lightning input by which the adapter is supplied with electricity.

We tried this with a third-party adapter. He recognized an SSD crucial X9 Portable on an iPhone 14 Pro if it was connected to a power supply.

The SSD then appeared in the files app. However, this did not work with an older and more power -hungry SSD of the Western Digital My Passport type.
