Tim Cook: Does the Apple boss get more power despite problems?

Despite the accumulating problems in a number of areas that Apple has been plagued for a long time, the group’s supervisory board (Board of Directors) has still been consolidated behind CEO Tim Cook, who has been running Apple since 2011. One of the reasons is likely to be that the manager, who is considered a supply chain expert, has succeeded in increasing Apple’s sales and profit sharply – and the company value has also increased a good 1500 percent since taking office.

Apple currently has according to one Bloomberg report from the weekend No more explicit successor candidates. Because Cook’s right hand, Chief Operating Officer Jeff Williams, said that he wanted to retire until the end of the year. But Cook itself does not intend to do this, although he is a good three years older than Williams at the age of 64. According to Bloomberg, the Supervisory Board does not have the feeling of having to change anything. He was occupied with “cooking loyalists”, who made the business largely controlled as he wanted.

It is even possible that cooks will make it even bigger: board of directors-chairman Arthur Levinson has long since exceeded the usual retirement age for supervisory boards and could be replaced by Cook itself. This is not abnormal in the US IT industry: Satya Nadella from Microsoft is not only CEO, but also Chairman, i.e. the chairman of the supervisory board. Steve Jobs was also Chairman at Apple for a while when he had handed over the CEO position to John Sculley. However, that ended With the outline of jobs.

Apple’s Board of Directors apparently assumes that only cooks can be solved to solve the current problems with Apple – even if it is jointly responsible for them. There is regulatory pressure on the App Store and the iOS and iPados platforms in numerous countries in the world. There are high penalty payments and governing into the group’s technology, for example by the EU. Furthermore, Apple is behind the great competitors in terms of artificial intelligence, even if the iPhone manufacturer always emphasizes that you do not plan a chatt competitor at all, but focused on a holistic approach to AI. The problem: What Apple Intelligence currently delivers is clearly behind what Openai, Google or Anthropic are delivering.

After all, Apple has problems implementing new projects and products. Apple has been preparing Foldables for many years now that they will probably only come next year. With real augmented reality glasses, users also have to wait, while the Vision Pro is technically impressive, but totally overpriced. Even with standard products such as the Mac, there are shifts: recently it was said that this year there are no updates to the computer line. After all, Cook is often and frequently accused since Apple Watch and Vision Pro has not initiated a new product category. In fact, Apple’s development cycles have been significantly extended, products like the iPhone have been launched much faster than today’s hardware.
