Thin iPhone 17 Air: lightweight with a small battery?

In autumn, Apple is scheduled to plan a new form factor for the iPhone for the first time in years: a particularly thin “Air”- or “Slim” model. The device meets Samsung’s existing competition: The manufacturer recently presented a similar approach with the S25 Edge – and the thinnest cell phone from the house so far. But Apple could add a shovel to this model. This is evident at least from fresh rumors that circulate in Asia.

This is how the Korean smartphone supply-chain-leaker Yeux1122, which has been correct in the past, claims that Apple will be the weight of the S25 Edge in the iPhone 17 Air undercut again. While Samsung is offering 163 grams here, it should only be 145 grams on the Schmalhans iPhone. With the thinness, Apple allegedly also beats the S25 Edge, if only minimal: instead of 5.8 millimeters as with the Samsung, it should be 5.5 millimeters. However, there will be a “Camera Bump” that increases the thickness at least at this point. Apple would be significantly the thinnest iPhone so far – the old model 6 from 2014 – with its 6.9 millimeters.

However, the battery life is rather unsightly – or at least the built -in battery: yeux1122 claims that it can only save 2800 mAh. For comparison: With an iPhone 16, the capacity is 3561 mAh, Samsung S25 Edge even has a power memory with 3900 mAh. It is not abnormal that the battery in iPhones is smaller than with Android devices, since iOS is generally less powerful. Nevertheless, 2800 mAh would be very little. Apple therefore seems to want to work with some software tricks to get a maximum-different AI functions directly in iOS 19 should help to optimize the term.

The 2800 mAh are reminiscent of the capacity of older models. iPhone 12 and 12 Pro with their 6.1 inches had 2815 mAh cells. It wasn’t really “bad” (2020). Apple hopes that at least 60 to 70 percent of users Cover for a day – this is less than the usual 80 to 90 percent.

Another rumor concerns built -in battery technology. Apple supplier TDK is preparing Apparently on the availability of batteries with silicon-anode before. They should accommodate up to 15 percent more energy in the same area. That would be very suitable for the 17 Air, supposedly the lead is sufficient to autumn.
