The hinge for the foldable iPhone Fold will be significantly cheaper than expected

In the fall of 2026, we expect Apple to finally present its first smartphone with a foldable display, which we tentatively call the iPhone Fold. The device will be the company’s most expensive model so far, but new information from Ming-Chi Kuo gives a ray of hope for better pricing.

The analyst, who is known for his excellent ties to Apple’s supply chain participants, claims that a key component of the iPhone Fold will be cheaper than initial forecasts. It’s about the hinge for the folding mechanism of the device, which will arrive at the American company at a price between $70 and $80, instead of early expectations of $100-$120.

Kuo points out that the lower price was achieved thanks to the joint venture of Foxconn and Shin Zu Shing, which have successfully optimized the design of the component. The joint venture has also secured a larger share of orders – about ~65% – compared to its competitor Amphenol (~35%).

This drastic reduction in the average selling price of the component will allow Apple to reduce its costs and achieve higher margins. However, there is also a possibility that Tim Cook will be kind to his customers and reflect this decline in the final price of the iPhone Fold. This would help the first foldable smartphone from Cupertino to reach a wider range of users.
