Studio Display 2: supposedly several variants planned

According to a media report, Apple's screen department works on several new display models for the desktop. Apparently there is a successor for the studio display that the manufacturer had launched in 2022 together with the first Mac Studio – and, interestingly, not only this. According to a Bloomberg message A model with the code name J427 should be released from the weekend at the end of 2025 or early 2026. But it does not stay that way: a second device with a code name J527 is in the pipeline.

The current studio display goes back to a panel from the 27-inch iMac with Intel chip. It was without much competition over a longer period of time, but there are now a number of interesting alternatives. J427 should keep back here-for example with HDR support and a higher refresh rate. J527 could now be either a second model that is being developed in parallel, or the successor.

In addition to the Studio Display, Apple is currently also selling the Pro Display XDR. This is even older than the studio display and is extremely expensive in terms of price. It came onto the market in December 2019, but at Apple at least 5499 euros – without stands, for which you pay 1099 euros surcharge. However, technical details are neither leaked about J427 nor for J527.

If you do not want a more modern broad image display, you can also use competitors such as LG or Samsung as a replacement for the studio display, which are more oriented towards Apple. A new Ultrafine 6K from LG delivers 32 inches and even Thunderbolt 5, but no prices and availability have yet been mentioned. Dell also has a 32-inch with 6K at the start, which Thunderbolt 4 masters and could be used as an alternative to the Pro Display XDR.

The Dell device is less than half as expensive. Apple had recently brought the Mac Studio to a new stand, with M4-Max chip or alternatively M3 Ultra. However, new displays were not presented. If the Bloomberg report is right, you will have to be patient here.
