Spotify becomes more expensive in several countries. The company wants to inform its customers by email behind the music streaming service, according to a message. It is currently unclear where Spotify wants to turn Spotify on the price screw. Spotify only writes of “several markets” in Asia, Africa, Latin America and Europe.
The new prices apply According to Reuters From September. In the affected European markets, the monthly costs for Spotify in the standard subscription increase from 11 to 12 euros a month. That shows one Example email that Spotify has published. It is still unclear whether the prices will also rise in other subscriptions.
Procedure in Germany open
So far, there is no evidence that Germany and Austria are also affected by the price increases. On the respective information pages of the subscription options of Spotify there are still the previous prices for the premium subscription. Spotify did not answer questions from Heise Online immediately.
In Germany, the procedure shown in the example email would be illegal anyway: In order to increase prices for ongoing subscriptions, the explicit consent of the users is needed. The Berlin Court of Berlin declared clauses in the terms and conditions that should grant Spotify one -sided price increases in 2023. The SPOTIFY email, on the other hand, presents users with accomplished facts.
Most recently, Spotify increased German subscription prices in autumn 2023. The monthly costs for a single subscription rose from 10 to 11 euros a month. In Germany, Spotify has just launched its new audio book offer: With the additional option “Hörbücher+”, users can also hear for 15 hours per month. Together with the twelve hours included in the standard, this results in a hearing time of 27 hours a month. The additional option for audio books costs 9 euros a month, so there is a total of 20 euros together with the current subscription price.
