Together with the price increase of the premium tariffs, Spotify has introduced a new base abodella that has been available in the United States since mid-2024. It is only aimed at “selected existing customers” and can only be booked once.
Spotify Basic: Fast Premium, only without 12 hours of audio books
According to Spotify, they are Basic subscriptions Just aimed at existing customers who can do without certain functions. The main difference between “Basic” and “Premium” is the lack of the audiobook offer that was only introduced a few months ago. In contrast to Premium, the new Basic subscription does not comprise a monthly audio book playback time, but individual audio books can be bought. In addition to music and podcasts, the premium offer has contained twelve playback hours per month for the audiobook catalog with over 350,000 titles.
In addition to the audio books, the basic offer includes the most important premium functions such as listening to music, downloads for offline use, playing songs in any order and high audio quality. According to Spotify, listening to music abroad also remains possible.
Prices of the basic tariffs
Premium customers are likely to be familiar with the prices of the new Basic tariffs: Because for individuals, Spotify demands 10.99 euros a month and therefore costs as much as the premium subscription before the current price increase. The same applies to the other “Basic Duo” and “Basic Family” options: 14.99 and 17.99 euros are incurred for them. Spotify does not offer a basic tariff for students-they are either the free, advertising-financed offer or the discounted premium tariff of 6.99 euros.
For comparison: For the premium offers with audiobook option, Spotify has been demanding EUR 12.99 (individual), 17.99 euros (DUO) and 21.99 euros (family) since August 14. Premium customers who agree to the price increase only have to pay the higher prices from November 15th.
Unique offer
As Spotify explains, the basic offer is only addressed to existing customers and is also not available to all users. Only authorized users will be offered on the Website displayed according to the log-in.
In addition, interested parties should know that the change to the basic tariffs is only available once. If you cancel the basic subscription, you cannot subscribe to it again. For customers who have not previously made use of the premium tariff that has not been used by the included audiobook offer, the change to Basic should be a sensible option to bypass the price increase-at least until Spotify turns the price screw again.
