Sonos stamps his streaming box

Sonos apparently throws his plans overboard to enter the TV streaming market with a streaming box. The Verge reports. Sonos has never confirmed the existence of its streaming box, the product has never been announced. We only know from media reports that it was actually planned.

According to The Verge the streaming box with the code name Pinewood has been in the beta test for months. Interim CEO Tom Conrad has now made the decision not to launch the product. The Sonos employees working on it should switch to other projects, writes The Verge.

Behind this is apparently the strategic decision to focus more on the core business with WLAN speakers for the time being. You can only speculate about the market prospects of a streaming box from Sonos. It is clear that the reported that the price of up to $ 400 would have scorned a very high price.

The software was probably the planned unique selling point of the streaming box: According to The Verse, the streaming box based on Android based should be given a surface that bundles the content of different streaming services in an overview. This should be spared users to browse through the separated libraries of streaming offers for the selection of film and series. Among other things, Netflix and Disney+should be supported.

It was software that Sonos recently maneuvered in massive difficulties: the false start of the new app annoyed customers and shook the company in such a way that it separated from its CEO and other high -ranking managers. At Sonos, everything is being questioned because of this-the streaming box could ultimately have fallen victim to the app debacle of the US company.
