A meeting in which a responsible Apple manager arises about the current AI problems at Siri has been entering the Bloomberg financial news agency. Robby Walker, Senior Director for the “Siri Experience”, is said to have spent the current state of the (not yet) context-sensitive voice assistant in the “All-Hands”. The delays in central radio music are “ugly and embarrassing,” he said According to the report. This made it worse that Apple applied the functions in advance. A corresponding advertising video with an actress has now been withdrawn, but it can still be examined.
Other projects come in a way
The meeting is said to have included all employees of the Siri department at Apple. You are currently in a “bad period,” said Walker. Accordingly, it is even unclear when the features – now announced by Apple in disclaimers for a “future software update”. According to Walker, his employees were “angry and disappointed”, some have burnout and they were embarrassed that the delay occurred. Originally, the functions – in addition to a personal context for Siri, should also be controlled by language as well as the detection of screen contents – with iOS 18.5.
Nevertheless, Walker praised his team that it had “incredibly impressive” radio and he would ensure that Apple will deliver the “industrial virtual assistant” to customers. The Siri manager also said that worse is said to have done the thing that Apple's marketing communication had insisted on promoting the functions. Apple is now aiming at iOS 19, but it is unclear whether it is also time – the first version is expected in September. The Siri department therefore also has other “commitments” for other projects that will be held. Accordingly, these functions- for example for new hardware and software- can be preferred, you can choose “from case to case”.
Functions only work in 80 percent of cases
Customers wanted an overall “fully rounded siri”. Walker stated that as a management you take full personal responsibility-not only he, but also AI boss John Giannandrea and software boss Craig Federighi and other high managers. According to Walker, the function is already implemented, but only work correctly up to a maximum of 80 percent of the time. The percentages should be high. The employees had put “heart and soul” into the functions. Walker also showed some of the functions in the all-handed, for example, found a driver's license in his photo database with Siri or a specific photo of a child.
He also manipulated an app directly by language, inserted a content into an email and added recipients. His employees should be “proud of innovative work”. According to Walker, the employees are now “relieved” that Apple has announced the shift, even if some are embarrassed. “It is normal for you to feel that way.” Apple continues to deliver “the world's best virtual assistants”. However, the company has been working on this since 2011.
