Signal affair: Modified messenger used in the US government was cracked

Less than a week after it became known that high-ranking representatives of the US government apparently use the crypto messenger signal via a special app that is levering on central functions, this application has now been broken. This reports 404 Media And adds to the Donald Trump government’s signal affair. It was only last Thursday that the US magazine reported that photos of the national security consultant show that he does not use signal on his smartphone, but a modified app, which is apparently telemessage. Mike Waltz was previously at the center of the signal affair and lost his post last week.

Telemessage According to the report, the use of crypto messengers such as Signal and WhatsApp including the news of the messages for archiving purposes. This is intended to enable official bodies in the US government to use it without violating archiving purposes. For this, copies of the news are sent to Telemessage, writes 404 media. The US magazine found this based on the source code of the application. The service thus adds the messenger to an opportunity to attack, which has now actually been exploited for Signal.

As 404 Media explains, the anonymous attacker has managed to view direct messages and content from group chats that were sent or received via telemessage. Although none of US cabinet members are there, the magazine was allowed to see those who indicate that they come from a group in the US Congress that debates a legislative project. Others apparently come from the US border protection authority, from the CryptoBörse Coinbase and a bank. The modified application is also used in the police of the US capital Washington DC. If the attacker had wanted, the person could have tapped much more, says 404 Media.

The application had moved into the public’s light last week, As a photo of the Reuters news agency showedhow Waltz used the application during a meeting of the US government on his smartphone. On the photo It was recognized that the recent news apparently came from the US Vice President JD Vance, from the secret service coordinator Tulsi Gabbard and from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. All of these conversations have been potentially visually visible for unauthorized persons. Waltz lost his post shortly afterwards, he should now become the new US ambassador to the United Nations.

The signal affair started at the end of March with the unveiling that a renowned US journalist had accidentally added to a group chat to signal in which Waltz and other high-ranking people from the US government exchanged secret information about US military strokes. As a result, it was announced that the Messenger is much further common in the US government. Such commercial software on private mobile devices for such conversations is completely unsuitable for such conversations. The case now adds another chapter that not a signal itself, but the modified – and the modified – extended – extended – app was used by Telemessage.
