Selfie monitor with magnet from Rollei

If you want to take pictures of yourself via video or photo, you usually take the front camera on the iPhone: Then you can see if you are correct in the picture. However, you do not use the best camera that brings the smartphone: the back (in pro-models up to three) image sensors provide higher quality. The camera accessory brand Rollei has now recognized the problem and will soon bring a mini-monitor to the market that can be attached to the back of the iPhone using a magnet (i.e. Apple’s Magsafe). Result: You can also see yourself with the “right” cameras and you can adjust the picture correctly.

The new roller egg device is simply called Selfie monitor From the “Easy Creator” series and can already be pre-ordered. The screen is a 3.97-inch IPS LCD panel. Resolution and brightness are not very high with 800 by 480 pixels at 400 Candela, but should be sufficient for the purpose. The connection takes place via P2P screen mirroring, which is triggered using Bluetooth-the frequency range is used by 5.8 GHz. 40 ms are given as latency. At first it remained unclear which iPhone models are supported.

To control the screen, the mirror mode in the control center must be selected. Further apps for control are not necessary, the system simply passes on the existing screen contents in full screen. The display contains a loudspeaker and should hold out for around three hours fully charged (battery with 4.81 Wh at 1300 mAh and 3.7 V). The weight is 180 grams.

In addition to the selfie monitor itself, the packaging itself is a USB-C connection cable that also serves for charging, and a “magnetic ring sticker”. The latter is intended for Android devices that do not have Magsafe. Incidentally, Rollei did not get an official Magsafe approval, but the magnet seems to be sufficiently strong. The radio range is up to 50 meters, so you can also monitor the iPhone from a distance.

On the outside of the screen, brightness or volume buttons are attached and a remote release button (via Bluetooth), which also serves to adjust the image side ratio. You can also turn the picture on request. The price for the selfie monitor is currently 69 euros during the pre -order phase. The hardware should later cost 100 euros.
