Samsung can produce camera sensors for the iPhone 18 series, which will displace longtime partner Sony, states a new hearing, shared by Financial TimesS According to the sources of the publication, the new agreement between Apple and Samsung envisages the components to be manufactured in the United States and use the iPhone 18 next year.
Cooperation between the two companies is part of Apple’s new investment plan., which includes an investment of $ 600 billion in the US economy over the next four years for production and development.
As part of the agreement, Samsung will produce Apple smartphone camera sensors by an innovative method that has not been used anywhere else worldwide. The sensors produced will also provide higher pixel density and better results in low light.
The production process itself will take place in Koreans’ factories in Austin, Texas, which will surely calm the existing tension between Apple and current US administration, led by President Donald Trump.
This development of things is a serious blow to Sony, which has so far been an exclusive partner of the Cupertino giant as far as iPhone cameras are concerned. Probably Samsung’s progress in this aspect and the delayed development of higher quality cameras by the Japanese made Apple eventually look in another direction.
