Real-time text: Handynis users can chat soon during the phone call

German mobile phone users can soon activate a live chat function on phone calls. All four network operators freed up on June 28th as part of the barrier-free power law law (RTT). During a phone call, you can enter the Chat phone app that the interlocutor can see in real time.

This means that you can see every typed letters immediately-in contrast to traditional chat programs, a message does not have to be sent. RTT was mainly designed as a feature for accessibility and should enable people with language or listening restrictions to be able to communicate better with the smartphone. In addition, RTT 2027 should also be mandatory for emergency calls across the EU, so that callers can communicate discreetly with the emergency call or the police in dangerous situations.

Most current cell phones have been supporting RTT for a long time. However, the mobile operators have to unlock the function before you can actually use it. The messages sent are sent via mobile phone and do not rule out the data volume of mobile phone contracts.

From Android 10 and iOS 11.2

RTT can be used on devices with Android from version 10 and iOS from version 11.2. The feature only works during an active phone call that is carried out via LTE, 5G or WLAN. On the other hand, RTT does not work on phone calls via older mobile phone standards. In addition, the mobile operators cannot guarantee that RTT will work abroad during discussions – the prerequisite is that the mobile phone operator of the person called also supports the function.

To activate real-time text, users must switch to the settings of their telephone app. With Android and iOS, the feature should appear under the “Operating Aids” item as soon as it is activated. The RTT function can then be used. Users can either start calls directly with activated RTT or activate the function during an ongoing phone call.
