Quick Sire: Google experimented with data transfer between Android and iPhone

With Google’s Quick Sire it is possible to comfortably share data between Android devices, but also with Chromebooks and Windows devices. Now the hobbyists from Android Authority have found indications in a current Play Services-APK-i.e. the installation file from the Google Play Store-that Google is preparing the data exchange with iPhones and Macs.

In a recent version of the Google Play Services app (25.34.31 beta) the developer has assembledebug For Android Authority, discovered strings in the Assets, which confirm “Quick Sire for iPhones”. Another string indicates that the users have to register with a Google account to use Quick Sire to release files. The developer was also able to activate a menu that indicates an end-to-end data release for iPhones.

It is not the first sign of life from Quick Sire for Apple’s ecosystem: Already at the end of 2024 Android Authority reported on the relevant information.

In contrast to Apple’s Airdrop system tool, with which files, photos and other content between iPhones, Macs or iPads can be transferred seamlessly, future iPhone or Mac users from Quick Sire should install a corresponding app on their devices. It is still unclear whether or when Google will offer this tool for Apple devices. Such a solution would be welcome for Android users with Macs to interlink your smartphone a little closer with an Apple notebook.

The Chinese smartphone manufacturer Oppo meanwhile has with the “O Plus Connect“-App a solution for Oppo and OnePlus smartphones ready to share data with a Mac.

For MAC users of an Android smartphone, however, the app is Neardrop An interesting temporary solution. You only have to install the open source client on your Mac, which is offered on Github. You can then push data back to your Mac via Quick Sire from Android.

Another option is Localing: The free open source application also supports the data transfer between Macs and Android in both directions. It is also offered for iOS, Windows and Linux.
