iPhone users can activate Perplexity’s voice assistant in the app and, for example, ask him to write emails, create memories and to take on restaurant reserves. With the company’s voice assistant, according to a contribution to X, it is also possible to send calendar invitations and to play podcasts, YouTube videos and other media.
Apple had already announced some of the functions for the new generation of Siri, but has not yet been able to deliver it. Instead, Apple rely on more demanding inquiries on chatt, but the Openai solution on iPhones is not able to perform similar tasks like the perplexity assistant. Perplexity basically delivers in parts what Apple had already promised to the WWDC 2024.
Perplexity, however, has clear limits on iPhones, because only Apple’s voice assistant is deeply integrated into the operating system, so that only Siri can be activated by voice command. In contrast to Android, Siri cannot simply be replaced by another voice assistant. Apple would not allow that not for reasons of loss of control over its own platform.
Perplexity wants to become an alternative to Gemini on Android devices
How Bloomberg reports, Seems Perplexity, however, on Android devices directly against Google’s Gemini. According to the financial newspaper, the company is in discussions with Samsung and Motorola. The report has already been agreed with Motorola.
The first Motorola devices with perplexity as an alternative assistant should appear shortly. Among other things, the voice assistant should be used with “a tailor-made user interface” for the updated foldable RAZR models.
Despite a close partnership with Google and a deal in which “enormous money sums” for the installation of Gemini on Galaxy smartphones, Samsung could also rely on perplexity. According to a court statement by Peter Fitzgerald, Google’s Vice President for Platforms and Device Partnerships, there is no exclusivity.
