Headphones, Bluetooth boxes, iPhone cases: Apple’s subsidiary Beats has slowly expanded its portfolio in recent years with further accessory categories. Now Beats has presented its own series of USB cables. After the strings have already appeared at individual dealers in advance, they now go on sale.
Comeback for Lightning
The simply “beats cable” is available in various variants from USB-C on USB-C, USB-C on USB-A or USB-C on Lightning. The cables are not only suitable for headphones, Android devices and newer iPhones, but also for older Apple devices.
The specifications read at least calmly: All beats cables are designed for transfer rates in slow USB 2.0 speed (up to 480 Mbit/s). There are differences in loading speed: The USB-C-ASB-C variant loads devices via Power Delivery with up to 60 watts, USB-A-AUSB-C only 15 watts. The USB-C-on-C variant is also suitable for playing music with suitable boxes or headphones. Loss-free reproduction (Lossless Audio), for example via Apple’s Airpods Max with USB-C or the Beats Studio Pro, is also supported.
The cables are available either at 0.2 or 1.2 meters. Beats emphasizes her durability: Instead of smooth plastic, the manufacturer relies on a braided reciprocation. The reinforcement should be particularly robust and not fray. According to Beats, the products “go through thousands of test hours during the design and production process”. Time will show whether this proves itself. All cables are available in different colors: Power black, energy gray, turbo blue and lightning-red are available.
Proud price
A single cable with a length of 20 cm or 1.5 meters costs a proud 24.95 euros. This lies at a level with the somewhat shorter Apple cables. USB 2.0 strips of third-party providers like anchors can be obtained for significantly less money, if not always with textile grabs.
Beats demands 38.95 euros for a double pack. The cables in the double pack are always one and a half meters long, the Lightning variant is currently not in doubles. In the Apple Store the cables are available from April 17th.
