The next version of Vivo’s OriginOS with the serial number 6 could also have been almost the 26. Because in many respects, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer is based on Apple’s iOS 26. This starts with the Liquid Glass and ends with the 3D wallpaper.
OriginOS 6, which is based on Android 16, was released by Vivo on October 10 for the Chinese market and is scheduled to celebrate its global premiere on October 15. So far, the manufacturer has only used this version of its Android interface for China, while the OS attachment FuntouchOS has been used for the rest of the market. In a video, the manufacturer reveals the design and functions of the new in-house Android version, which, however, is not very reminiscent of Android 16 and more of iOS 26.
Liquid Glass for Android
The video shows Vivo’s OriginOS 6 with translucent, glass effects and design elements reminiscent of iOS 26. Apple users with the new iOS version should be familiar with the Liquid Glass watch, as well as the Control Center, the rounded app icons and glass-like buttons. Apple-style translucent app folders and the customizable lock screen are also kept.
Vivo goes so far with OriginOS 6 that even the screen backgrounds can be provided with a spatial 3D effect like Apple’s “3D Spatial Scenes”. The animation when starting the voice assistant is also reminiscent of Siri. In addition, there is a kind of Dynamic Island, which other manufacturers such as Xiaomi and Honor have already copied in a certain way.
Of course, it is not new that manufacturers in the smartphone sector copy each other and copy functions or design elements from the competition. Smartphones are largely developed, which is reflected not only in the hardware but also in the software area. Apple is inspired by Android and Google is inspired by iOS. It is also not new that some manufacturers such as Samsung or Xiaomi are seeking inspiration from Apple. However, the extent to which Vivo has now launched the copier with iOS 26 is quite remarkable.
The first smartphones based on OriginOS 6 are likely to be the Vivo X300 series and the iQOO 15. Whether or when the devices will come to Europe is still unclear. The Vivo brand IQOO in particular is rather unknown in this country.
