Will Apple’s new entry-level notebook, which could still be released in autumn, be cheaper than expected? A Report from Taiwan According to the price, a price from $ 600 is now rumored. That would be significantly cheaper than Apple’s current MacBook-Air entry from $ 1,000 (plus tax depending on the US state). The point of pricing is to “win more laptop market share”, writes the electronics sheet Digitimes, which appears in Taipei.
The goal is below $ 1000
It was already known that Apple wants to offer an option for less than $ 1,000 in 2015 or 2017 with the new model, which could be a kind of compact 12-inch MacBook. According to Digitimes, it should now start at $ 599 to $ 699, depending on the configuration. In Europe, however, higher euro prices can be expected as usual. Start prices between 850 and 950 euros are therefore more conceivable in this country.
According to Apple’s supply chain, a mass production of the new machine is expected at the end of the third quarter of 2025. An available could then be made at the end of 2025 to the beginning of 2026. At the moment, the rumor mill is expecting that Apple will not launch MacBook Pro models with the new M5 SoC this year and instead switch to spring 2026. It is unclear whether such scheduling also applies to the cheap MacBook. For autumn, at least new iPads (UA a Pro with M5) are expected, so a parallel introduction of the new Mac would be conceivable.
Equipment with iPhone chip
According to the previous information, Apple plans a device, among other things, the well-informed analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, which is equipped with 12.9 inches (approx. 33 cm) and is supposed to measure itself against (but cheaper) chromebooks. An A18-Pro-Chip is to be installed, which is currently in the iPhone 16 Pro. The idea of installing iPhone SoCs in the Mac is not new: Apple had already handled it in his developer machines in his developer machines when the transfer to Apple Silicon.
According to Digitimes, the finished quanta will take care of the final assembly. Apple allegedly wants to order up to 7 million units a year and thus increase the entire MacBook output by up to 40 percent. Kuo believes in an “ultra -thin, lightweight design”. Four colors are said to be intended, including blue, pink, yellow and silver. Thunderbolt should not support the machine, it apparently only has USB-C connections, as was once known from MacBooks.
