New CarPlay not in the new Porsche again

Apple's car play of the next generation of aa car play 2.0 is developing into an infinite story. As early as 2022, Apple had announced the expansion of its iPhone vehicle integration to various in-car features, but neither in 2023, the actual year of law nor in 2024, the technology then came into any model. Instead, Apple last had to report in January that the new CarPlay was still coming – although it was previously said on the group of the Group that it was ready by the end of 2024. But an expected brand does not (initially) participate: Porsche has now shown his new car entertainment in the current new car, but the new CarPlay is not there this time either.

The technology is neither in the new models from Cayenne, Panamera, Taycan nor 911. The “Porsche Communication Management”, PCM for short, relies on more of your own apps including your own app center, where you can also get third -party products. Before that, Porsche was at least expected that a first model with a new car play was appeared; Aston Martin had already carried out a demonstration in front of the press in 2023. In addition, the list of a possible partner for CarPlay 2.0 is: Audi, Ford, Renault, Volvo, Honda, Land Rover, Jaguar, Polestar, Nissan, Acura, Infiniti and Lincoln are also on top.

If CarPlay is currently mainly on the main display of the car – plus possibility to take over parts of the instrument cluster – CarPlay 2.0 should be much lower in the vehicle. So you should be able to control air conditioning systems, radio and various other features directly from CarPlay. So that the cars still look like the right brand, there are special “Gauge Cluster Designs” that the manufacturers can adapt. The instrument cluster will always remain in a branded look.

With the new PCM in Cayenne and Co., Porsche will continue to offer CarPlay and Android Auto-but without the hoped-for deeper integration for Apple technology. Instead, there is Amazons Alexa as a voice assistant by default – how it fits the Porsches image remains unclear. The sports car manufacturer also wants to accelerate his PCM and improved when it comes to UI and UX.

There is also Dolby Atmos if you have ordered a sound system from Burmester or Bose. PCM and the new models have been ordered since this week. It remains to be seen when and from which brand CarPlay 2.0 will finally be available.
