New Apple chips in the Macs, AI and glasses

What’s next for Apple Silicon? It can already be said that the M5 and A19 can be expected in different variants this year. The new SOCs promise medium -sized speed improvements including lower power consumption. But in Apple’s pipeline there are a number of new chips that are also used for new devices. That reports the Financial news agency Bloomberg.

In addition to the M5, which should land in the iPad Pro and MacBook Pro by the end of the year at the latest, at least three other Mac processors are in more detail. The M6 bears the code name “Komodo”, the M7 the internal name “Borneo”. Furthermore, there is also a more advanced Mac chiiips with the code name “Sotra” in the pipeline. Apple is also planning pure AI server chips for the first time, which are only intended for internal use as part of Apple Intelligence.

At the moment, Apple still uses commercially available goods from the shelf like the M2 Ultra. Not only Apple’s traditional finished TSMC is involved in the AI chip, but also The WLAN and Bluetooth chip specialist Broadcom. The code name is said to be “Baltra”, completion date is said to be in 2027. A doubling to the cuddling of the CPU and GPU cores compared to the current M3 Ultra is planned for this.

Finally, Apple also plans to build its own processor for smart glasses. Here the company allegedly consider a variant without a display, as you know it from Metas Ray Ban glasses. The planned SoC (or system-in-a package, SIP) should be particularly powerful and yet efficient so that the glasses can be converted all day. Later there are also “real” AR glasses with screen, a kind of really portable vision pro.

In addition to working on new processors, Apple is working on the further development of its fashion architecture. With the C1, the Group had installed its own radio chip in the iPhone 16E for the first time. This should end up in more devices in the future. The hope also remains that one day Mac users will also be supplied with 5G reception. But first the radio technology of the C series should land in other iPhones.
