Microsoft Team Clients older than 90 days will be blocked in the future

Users cannot use the client until they have recorded a new version

The Microsoft team client is subject to the “Modern Lifecycle Policy”, which requires that users always use the latest version of the application. This is usually ensured by automatic updates.

If desktop clients have not been updated despite the update policy, Microsoft is consequences that the company records in a contribution dated April 4, 2025.

So that users do not sit in front of a blocked team client, a warning banner will be shown in the app 60 days before the cut-off date. With a virtual desktop environment (VDI) it is only 30 days.

Microsoft has the following periods announcedfrom which users get the closure notice:

-From April 11, 2025: For users of the Windows desktop app.
-From May 6, 2025: For users who use the team app in a VDI environment,
– From May 15, 2025: For users who use teams on the Mac.

If users have a blocked team client, Microsoft advises to update the latest version of the team app. This can be downloaded from the download page. Alternatively, the team app can be used on the web.
