Exactly one week after the publication of iOS 26, Apple has switched off the opportunity to return from the latest version of the iPhone operating system to iOS 18.6.2. If you are still trying to make a downgrade, you will receive an error message. Those who cannot make friends with the new liquid glass design is now denied the return to the old design in iOS 18.
Setting the signing of older versions is a common process when Apple has updates. It is a security measure to prevent potentially error -related and unsafe old versions from being reinstalled. When trying an installation, a comparison is made via Apple’s server in order to confirm your authenticity using the digital signature of the software. Apple can also counteract so -called jailbreaks because gaps in older operating system versions are often used for this.
iOS 18.7 only for certain older devices
Returning to older iOS versions is anything but comfortable even if there is an existing possibility. To do this, users must download the older version in the form of an IPSW file on a Mac or PC and then import it on the device via USB cable. During beta phases, the downgrade is a kind of last rescue when massive problems with the beta occur. However, users can only return to the data backup, which they carried out on the beta before the update.
Together with iOS 18.6.2, the signs of iPados 18.6.2 and TVOS 18.6 were also pulled out of circulation. Apple usually waits for a week with this step.
iOS 18.7, however, is still signed. However, this version is only available for certain older devices and serves to supply them with security updates. If you have a device that supports iOS 26, you will not find a suitable IPSW file with iOS 18.7 to make a downgrade.
