Apple has added a nice little something for owners of a certain iPad model series to its program this week: The Magic Keyboard for the iPad Air will no longer only be available in white, but also in black. The last iPad Air with an M3 chip had already been presented by Apple in March 2025 in a total of four colors – space gray, blue, purple and “Polaris”, a gold tone – but there was only one for the original keyboard and trackpad.
Color matching
Apple has now eliminated this unsightliness, as a look at the Apple Online Store reveals. Both the 11-inch variant and those with 13 inches of the Magic Keyboard for the iPad Air now comes in two colors. Apple simply calls them “white” and “black”. Unfortunately, the heavy pricing does not change: The M3 variant of the keyboard case costs 329 euros for the 11-inch model, and even 349 euros for the 13-inch version. Incidentally, this is significantly more than you pay for the US version – albeit without sales tax: The 11-inch version costs 269 US dollars, the 13-inch version 319 dollars.
Unfortunately, Apple has always followed the high pricing for the Magic Keyboard for the iPad in this way. In view of the cost of the tablet itself, this seems excessive. For example, you can buy the iPad Air M3 with a meager 128 GB from the manufacturer for 649 euros (11 inches), so you would have to pay more than half the price for the keyboard and trackpad alone. The prices also last quite a long time. If you buy your Magic Keyboard later – i.e. for older models – you won’t get much discount in stores either.
No sparing for the entry-level model
Apple is currently selling three variants of its keyboard including trackpad. All of them are called Magic Keyboard. For the iPad Pro (M4 and M5), the 11-inch variant starts at 349 euros. Users of the entry-level iPad are not spared either: The Magic Keyboard Folio, which also combines keyboard and trackpad, but requires a fold-out stand to avoid falling over, is listed at 299 euros.
The Folio is compatible with the iPad of the 10th and 11th generation (the latter is also called “iPad A16”). Apple sells the iPad 11 from 379 euros with 128 GB, so the surcharge for keyboard and trackpad is also powerful here.
