When will MacBook Pro models come in a new design? Apple has not adapted the look of the devices since 2021. After there were rumors in July that there could be an update of the series with M5 chip this year, a well-known Apple journalist now writes about a shift in the redesign of the professional notebook. Loud Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman a “revised model” with M6 SoC and OLED screen “will come onto the market between the end of 2026 and early 2027. Before that, it was said that the devices were to be expected at the end of 2026.
Shifts also with the pre -model
Apple traditionally updates its MacBook Pro machines in autumn: In October there is a performance, and often extradition in November. But this year Apple is supposedly not finished in time. M5 machines are currently not expected before January 2026-this is just a SoC upgrade, no redesign. At the end of 2026, i.e. at the earliest in October, one MacBook Pro M6 would have been to be expected, but according to Gurman, this could now move into the spring of 2027 – possibly also to bring more distance between the series.
An example of shifts that brought two generations in one year have already been: M2-Pro and M2-Max-MACs came out in January 2023, M3, M3-Pro and M3-Max machines in October 2023. However, there was no redesign in between. Apple’s M5 SoC has not yet been published. While last year the iPad Pro M4 made the pioneer when using a new chip, an iPad Pro M5 is not expected before autumn.
What the MacBook Pro should be able to do in the future
No matter how the publication calendar ultimately fails: those interested in buying should be careful. As soon as it is clear that Apple provides the MacBook Pro M6 with a redesign, the M5 predecessor becomes significantly more uninteresting.
At the moment, the rumor kitchen assumes that the redesign in addition to Apple’s largest OLED screen (which has so far only been available in 11 and 13 inches in the iPad Pro M4) also brings an overall thin housing and a reclaimed camera recruitment. The performance difference between M4 and M5 should be more moderate.
