“Liquid Silicone”: Apple is said to be planning new iPhone covers

Apple supposedly plans to expand its own protective covers for the iPhone. Together with the presentation of the iPhone-17- and iPhone-17-Pro models, the company will unveil a new product line called “Liquid Silicone”, reports the Chinese leaker “Majin Bu”. The wavy design is apparently an allusion to the new software look called “Liquid Glass”. However, predictions are to be made with great caution: he was right a few times, but on other occasions it was also thoroughly wrong.

What speaks for an expansion of the protective covers selection is the unplanned reduction of the range, which Apple had to make due to the ongoing criticism of the Finewoven covers. The fine fabric that Apple’s leather shells replaced did not hit the taste of the customers. It was considered bad and expensive. After the clammy loss in 2024, only the silicone shells remained on offer. Even then, the question arose whether Apple will expand the range again in the future.

The “Liquid Silicone” covers, of which BU alleged patterns showed in pictures, do not enter into new experiments in the substance used. Instead, they differ from the smooth covers by a striking wave effect on the back in the area of the Magsafe charging area. In addition, they have a recess that could be used to attach a hand loop. Apple already has something like that on the Airpods Pro 2 loading case.

Experts see the alleged leak with great skepticism: processing quality and placement of the shells shown do not correspond to Apple’s design standards, complain. At most, it could be prototypes. Most recently, BU had talked to the correct prediction of a Mac-like menu bar in Ipados 26. Before that, however, a number of predictions from him were wrong.

The presentation of the iPhone 17 is currently expected for September 9th. Then it should also be found during the presentation or at the latest in the online store of Apple whether there are new covers – and if so, what they look like.
