LibreOffice receives support for Markdown files. The developers are currently working on both exports and an import, whereby the work is still at the beginning – in the upcoming version 25.8 the feature will not yet be available. It is still open whether LibreOffice 26.2 26.2 next year can be used with Markdown files.
The Markdown award language is already over two decades old. Users can create simply formatted text with it. Markdown is particularly popular in the web area and software developers, for example to write readme files. As a rule, users use special editors to write documents in the language.
Native for Notepad, not for Word
Microsoft is also currently working on the Markdown support-but for the text editor Notepad. Formatting can be activated using buttons on request. The function is currently only available in insider users. If you want to work with Markdown in Word, on the other hand, you have to install an expansion like Writing. It automatically converts the formatting into the syntax of the language.
How exactly the Markdown support in LibreOffice will work is still unclear-it is only known that The export based on the existing HTML function. There is a special writer/web mode for them, in which only the supported formatting is available. The import Currently only creates an empty writer file.
