With iOS 19, Ipados 19 and MacOS 16, Apple supposedly plans a new, more uniform design of its operating systems. At the same time, iPhone and iPad should get more “Mac-Like” functions under certain use scenarios. At least this is claiming that has been correct several times in the past. According to the information, the Apple tablet receives a menu bar for the first time when using external hardware, while the stage manager function for window management from MacOS and iPados also ends up on the iPhone.
The keyboard on it, menu bar appears
Leaker Majin Bu wants to have learned this from developer circles. He continues in a blog posting that the iPad receives a new variant of Stage Manager, which he calls Stage Manager 2.0. There should be new multitasking modes that one Simplified Window Management make possible. Currently, Ipados still lacks a completely free window placement, which makes Stage Manager rather unpopular in professionals.
Supposedly, the iPad immediately switches to the new mode as soon as a keyboard is connected to the device. A menu bar then appears on the upper edge of the screen, “which makes the iPad appear more like a laptop experience”. How these menus are composed is still unclear. In addition to basic commands, they would have to be adapted to the respective app. It has not yet leaked whether developers have to intervene or this automatically happens. Especially since the iPad Pro M4, there had always been criticism of Apple’s restricted iPados functions. This includes, for example, that Final Cut Pro does not dominate a rendering in the background.
iPhone with window management?
With iOS 19, window control continues to be on the iPhone for the first time, according to the blog post. So far, you cannot have two iOS apps on the screen. This should now be possible thanks to a stage manager function. However, this should only appear if the iPhone hangs on an external screen via USB-C cable.
A “full of desktop mode” is therefore not to be expected. Thanks to Stage Manager, however, it should at least be possible to store areas on the large screen. That is partially Already possiblealbeit associated with major restrictions. According to the report, iOS 19 will limit the number of apps that can be displayed simultaneously. The aim is to create a “seamless Apple ecosystem”. Apple will present details of iOS 19 and iPados 19 at the WWDC in early June.
