Jony Ive: Don't think about what Steve Jobs would have said about it

What would Steve Jobs say about the new iPhone 16E? How would he have found the Vision Pro? And what would have been on his own 70th birthday that would have taken place these days? Apple's former chief designer Jony Ive keeps catching up to ask yourself the Was-Hätte-Steve-Endle question. The Apple co-founder, who died at the age of 56, applied to his close friend not to do that.

In the BBC radio broadcast Desert Island Disc, IVE, who left Apple a few years ago, was now asked about his resume and his time at Apple. Born in the Briton, Apple started in 1992 and met there in 1997 after his return to Steve Jobs. He understood him in a way, like no other, Ive says to this day and is unhappy to say the jobs about the Rauhbein image. Rather, it was necessary to pursue an idea so intensely that it remains no idea, says Ive.

For ten years after his death, he was unable to read a text about jobs, Ive, who is still very taken by the loss of his friend and companion. It was a continuous conversation that would have maintained the two, which also maintained close connections in private. Would he have left Apple if jobs were still alive? No, Ive says, he couldn't imagine working elsewhere if jobs were still alive today.

What he valued about jobs, among other things, was the focus on the created that would have been possible under his leadership. The two at the first iMac were also on a wavelength that many people had not yet understood the computer in 1997. The use of colors and elements such as a handle should make the ratio of people to machine more lively, he explains.

His departure at Apple was the right decision, even if the transition was not easy, IVE recalls. Since 2019 he has had his own company LoveFrom with designer Marc Newson. Since then, Ive has also looked after many projects that have nothing to do with technology. Some time ago, however, it became sound that he was working on a AI project with Openai boss Sam Altman. Artificial intelligence arouses mixed feelings with him: the rapid development worries him without breathing and thinking about it, but he was also fascinated by the possibilities.

In general, IVE is always evident in conversation between the advantages and disadvantages of technology. The fact that some are addicted to use the smartphone, employ him as the designer of the iPhone, although he still sees the immensely used that is based on the invention. In general, he never was interested in technology because of the technology, but because of the people, says IVE, and how they can combine it.

Embedded is the almost one -hour program in various music posts that IVE selected and the importance of which he explains to him in the course of the program. For those who still know IVE from his Apple period, it is also a listening with its calm, sonorous voice, which is known for Apple's recordings at product ideas.
