A foldable iPhone with a clearly noticeable lifting in the middle or a visible display fold – many could not really imagine that. Apparently Apple is said to have kicked off. But now the hurdle has been cleared out and the fold was ironed out, reports the South Korean electronics news page Etnews.

According to the report, Apple is now planning the supply chain for a foldable iPhone and wants to have prepared it until April. The mass production of components could then begin in the second half of 2025. The first iPhone foldable would then be ready for sale for the second half of 2026, i.e. together with the iPhone 18 – provided that the information from South Korean industrial circles apply to anonymous origin. Before that, however, other media had already mentioned 2026 as a possible date.
Samsung is said to be the sole supplier
South Korea will play a major role in this, since according to the report, the display division of Samsung should be the sole OLED supplier. The company managed to strongly improve the display fold and to minimize it. Apple's foldable iPhone should be foldable inwards, so that resemble a book.
Further details of the report concern the cover glass and the hinges. With the deck glass, Apple wanted to put Apple on an ultra -thin glass of corning. The manufacturer also maintained close relationships with Apple in the past. The main supplier for hinges could become amphenol. The company with 73,000 employees, which was founded in 1993, according to its own statements, specializes in a wide range of waterproof plug -in connectors, cable confections and connecting systems for rough and robust environments. Apple and amphenol already entertain business relationships in the production of MacBooks.
Does Apple revitalize the market?
The previous competitors on the market of foldable smartphones would be anything but inconvenient, it is said. A foldable device of the iPhone manufacturer would focus on the foldable market, which, despite all the technical advances, still has not been able to build on the sales figures for classic smartphones. A foldable is an attempt to fulfill the otherwise saturated smartphone market with new life.
In order for Apple to keep its intended unique selling point of offering a foldable without visible folds, at least for some time, the US company has to hurry: Chinese providers are also on the subject. The Oppo Find N5 is an exemplary example of how the wrinkle problem can soon be overcome.
