iPhone rumors: News on series 17, 18, 19 and foldable conversion

What’s next for the iPhones? Apple is apparently planning a number of changes for this and the next two years in both the devices themselves and in its marketing strategy. This reports the IT-Newsdienst The Informationthat appears in Silicon Valley. The iPhone manufacturer supposedly wants to make the standard models available at different times than the pro- and planned foldable devices. A special model for the 20th birthday of the iPhone is also planned for 2027-supposedly for the first time with an “all screen design” without noticing or camera holes.

While all four iPhone-17 models are planned in autumn this year, there will be an appointment change from 2026. Accordingly, Pro devices (probably two) and a new “book-like” foldable (folded up 5.7 inches, open almost 8 inches) are scheduled for autumn next year, while a standard iPhone 18 will be released in spring. At the same time, a new variant of the iPhone 16E could be on the market – then probably as 18e. An “iPhone 17E” for spring 2026 would be off the table.

Apple’s idea is supposedly to better manage its iPhone line-up overall-both in terms of development as well as production and logistics. According to The Information, four models are scheduled for 2026/2027 in autumn (2026) and two in spring (2027). That would be iPhone 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max, 18 Air and Foldable in September, iPhone 18 and 18e in the following February or March. At the same time, Apple tries to make China more independent, which is obviously easier to do with this strategy. According to the information, all cheaper iPhones should be produced in India immediately, including the necessary test runs. So far, these have always been held in the People’s Republic.

Furthermore, the information claims to have heard that Apple is implementing devices with facial recognition (Face ID) under the screen for the first time in 2026. Apple has been working on this under-display technology for many years, but has always been dissatisfied. With the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, a “Pinhole” camera is still planned for the selfie area to the top left, according to the report, on the iPhone 19 Pro / 19 Pro Max (suspected name), the camera ends up under the screen. It remains to be seen what effects this has on the image quality. It is also unclear whether the Dynamic Island feature will die at the same time.

In the meantime, Apple intends to offer its own cowwow in the iPhone 17 Air. The reason is that the battery is smaller due to the thinness. Only “60 to 70 percent” of the typical users would get through the day, according to internal estimates – with other iPhones, this should be 80 to 90 percent. The 17 Air is said to include around ten percent of the production capacity. How difficult it will be with the cowwow – and above all as thick – has not yet been known.
