iPhone in Visionos 26: significantly more convenient use

So far, iPhone and Vision Pro have only been harmonized by a limited extent. Since you could not make facial recognition when using the headset, you always had to type in the unlocked pin. In addition, this was only possible if you were in the passenthrough mode, because visionos did not realize that an iPhone was sitting in front of the glasses-in contrast, for example to Apple keyboards that automatically displayed became. This is getting better with Visionos 26: The Vision Pro now recognizes iPhones and also helps to unlock the devices.

Who the full immersion Using-with Apple’s in-house Environments alias environments-can now also operate an Apple cell phone in his hand. The device appears within the immersion, including its own fingers. Unlocking a face ID device-as all current iPhones can do these days-is simply possible with the usual wiping gesture upwards as long as iPhone and Vision Pro use the same iCloud access.

At first it remained unclear how apps behave that Face-ID use. With Apple’s iPhone Mirroring function for MacOS, which drives a similar approach to iPhone integration in visionos (but is still not available in the EU), not all apps are biometrically unlockable. Some use the Mac fingerprint sensor, but by no means all. Apple could Optic ID procedurethe integrated eye tracking of the headset is used for this.

With the improved iPhone integration, you can wear Apple’s headset longer without having to stop. Before that, you always had to leave the immersion to see the cell phone. The forced PIN code input also disturbed the operation, which is why you are reluctant to pick up the smartphone-although it is still often needed, even if you have the vision Pro on your head.

Visionos 26 pursues Apple’s usual course of constant improvement. The new operating system for the Vision Pro otherwise also brings new spatial widgets in the room, prettier personas avatars and eye scrolling. With at least 4000 euros, however, the Vision Pro remains a very expensive investment.
