iPhone exports from China shrunk to the USA-India benefits

As part of the current trade war between the USA and China, there are now significant effects on Apple devices’ export statistics. According to US media reports, exports of Chinese smartphones fell into the United States in April At the lowest level since 2011. In the month comparison, it was 72 percent down, significantly more than with total exports (minus 21 percent). Much of them could be iPhones, the financial news agency Bloomberg writes. Apple had started significantly increasing its iPhone exports from India last month.

In addition to the decline in smartphone exports, there are also other changes. The Chinese customs administration reports that the value of the “telephone components”, which has been exported from China to India over the past year, is about four times higher. This is also logical, Apple allows its devices to end its devices in India – the components for this are only partially produced on the subcontinent.

The shift from China to India should help to avoid punitive tariffs to Chinese goods-which in the meantime achieved 145 percent due to a corresponding order from the US government. However, President Donald Trump Apple recently warned that he did not wish that the iPhone production from China will go to India. He wants works in the United States, which – at least at least at short notice – cannot be implemented for Apple and associated with massive costs.

Most recently, China and the United States had at least temporarily agreed to suspend the punitive tariffs – which had also been declared in the opposite direction. But this is temporary at first. Apple therefore does not want to rely on it and continues to move to India. So far, the country is considered friendly to the United States, which is why the punitive tariffs were always milder.

The bilateral trade between China and the USA in 2024 was around $ 690 billion a year. Apple’s largest production facilities are in China. Most recently, a book by the Financial-Times correspondent Patrick McGee, in which he argues, was also published on the subject The iPhone manufacturer himself contributed greatlyto bring Chinese electronics production to its current level.
