iPhone 17 Pro: But no (very) new look – big redesign until 2027

Apple is apparently not planning any major changes in design for the iPhone 17 Pro. Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman assumes this. In his newsletter from Sunday he writesthe new model will “look much more after 16 Pro than before”. This would result in the form factor that Apple had introduced with the iPhone 12 in 2020 and which has only received smaller optimizations since then – for example, with the colors, the use of titanium for the housing (from 15 pro) or when the camera control (16 pro) is supplemented.

While the thinner iPhone 17 Air is supposed to stand out from this year’s line-up because of its dimensions, the 17 Pro should be recognized primarily by the changes in the camera, the report said. A whole “camera block” is planned, which runs across the housing width and reminds a little of Google’s pixel. However, the arrangement of the three image sensors should not change. Render shots that show that the iPhone 17 Pro contains a colored camera block (such as in black), according to Gurman. It should be a sound-in-tone design. It remains with a gradual design change as you know from Apple.

Otherwise, 17 per improvement of the camera is expected, there may be changes in zoom levels and 8K video recordings for the first time. A new SoC promises (a little) more speed. Apple allegedly plans to return to aluminum- a material that has so far only been used for standard and plus models. According to a report From last autumn If it should be a combination of said aluminum and glass, both promise more durability together. Before the introduction of titanium as a housing material, Apple made the frame of the Pro models made of steel.

According to Gurman, Apple only wants to touch the design of the iPhone with the iPhone 19 (which may be different-there was no iPhone 9) that appears for the 20th anniversary of the smartphone in 2027. In addition to a-then probably second-variant of the long-awaited foldable, Apple will implement a “bold new pro model”, which should then make “more use of glass”.

This is an old dream at Apple: an iPhone that almost only consists of the amorphous solid – albeit in particular hardness. The former design director Jony Ive also had such a vision for the Apple Watch, but could not implement it during his time at Apple.
