iPhone 17 Air: Does the “bumper” come back?

Apple’s thinnest iPhone, which was expected in September, 17 Air (final name still unclear) is a challenge for buyers: How should you protect it without the greatest advantage of being lost? Apple’s typical covers apply too much, as well as folios. The thinness effect would be gone. For this reason, Apple is said to have considered reviving an old concept: the so -called bumper. It is a rubber-like border that is attached to the iPhone housing. It does not include the screen or the back. Instead, the edge area is protected and indirectly display and back, because the bumper stands forward and back. Means: If the iPhone ends up on the floor, its punch (hopefully) does not reach the display or the back.

Bumper played a rather inglorious role in iPhone history. Apple invented it in connection with the iPhone 4 and they became known primarily by the fact that they should help against the infamous, infamous antenna nagate. The iPhone lost quality of reception if you “held it wrong”. The bumper ensured that there was no touch of fingers and antenna areas. After a large press vertebrae for the antenna problems, Apple Cases and bumper even gave away to the iPhone buyers.

Bloomberg-Apple reporter Mark Gurman reported on X, he “believed” that Apple is the coating concept for the thin iPhone “At least considered / tested” have. However, it is unclear whether the implementation will really occur. According to Gurman, the idea is based on the concept for the iPhone 4 bumper from 2010.

So far, only Apple’s covers for the Pro models have been known, at least if the Leaker Majin Bu, which is probably based in Asia is correct. According to the so-called Techwoven Cases-which is supposed to replace the unfortunate Finewoven alias FeinFissen-now also presented other sleeve designs that Apple supposedly provides. At first glance, the allegedly Liquid Silicon looks like Apple’s usual silicone covers for the iPhone. In total Eight colors There are supposedly, including two orange and two green tones as well as two blue gradations.

Apparently, the silicone covers are also intended for iPhone 17 and 17 Air-the latter, as mentioned, would lose its thinness advantages. It is quite possible that – if Apple is not active – other sleeves manufacturers present bumper for the 17 air. The concept itself actually fits well here, even if it hardly protects the device perfectly.
