Apple is planning conversions for the form factor of its smartphones for the iPhone-17 generation this autumn. Instead of an “iPhone 17 Plus” with a large screen and compared to the Pro models slimmed down hardware, it should become a particularly thin “iPhone 17 Air”, at least speculates the upper league of the Apple rumors. Now there is new speculations on how flat the device could be – and how the new “Camera Bump”, i.e. the module, should be arranged with the camera sensors and the look. This is likely to apply it quite powerfully from the side, according to China.
It depends on the millimeter measure
So it was initially rumored that the iPhone 17 Air would be around 6 mm thick, the info came from the US IT intelligence service The Information and from the analyst Jeff PU from Hong Kong. On the other hand, competing market observers such as the frequently correctly lying supply chain expert Ming-Chi Kuo Belief assume 5.5 mm. Both values would be flatter than the so far flattest iPhone, the model 6 with its 6.9 mm from 2014. For comparison: the iPad Pro M4 with 13 inches is only 5.1 mm thick.
The Chinese leaker with the beautiful name “Ice Universe” recently claimed that the Camera Bump alone 4 mm thick becomes. This would mean that the iPhone 17 Air would be 9.5 mm high in its thickest point, which in turn coincides with Kuo's forecasts.
Long bump like with Android
The Camera Bump itself should get a new shape for Apple and supposedly cover almost the entire housing width – and no longer only take a corner of the device. This style has been known from Android devices for a long time.
Supposedly Apple only installs one camera in the iPhone 17 Air, similar to how you know this from the iPhone 16E. So you cannot record spatial videos with the device. Internally, Apple's in-house modem chip, the 5G-capable C1, could be installed. This is particularly energy -saving because it can be addressed directly from the SOC of the device – since there is little space for a larger battery in the 17 Air, this would be extremely useful. The iPhone 17 Air can probably be expected in September. Furthermore, there should also be a standard model and two pro variants. The screen of the 17 Air is said to take 6.7 inches.
