Fire baptism for the iPhone 16E: Apple's new model series has been pre -ordered since Friday afternoon, and the start of sales will follow on February 28th. In the early evening, all models were directly available without any visual bottlenecks. Apple gains a first insight into how great the demand of this unusually positioned new iPhone is: Instead of playing in the price segment of the previous SE, the iPhone 16E takes the position of the previous year's iPhone 14. The latter has earlier than usual Not least because Apple's missing USB-C port can no longer be sold in the EU.

In Germany offers Apple the 16e from just under 700 euros with 128 GB of storage space. The price difference to the 128 GB models from iPhone 15 (from 706 €) (Street price 700 to 750 euros) and iPhone 16 (from € 778.99) (Street price 780 to 830 euros) is manageable.
Differences in display and camera system
The iPhone 16 is better equipped in (almost) every respect: the OLED display of the iPhone 16, which is identical to the size, supports a higher lace brightness, which can be noticeable in the external use in a glisten sun. The 16E also lacks an ultra -wake angle lens with macromodus. The newcomer Apple's new edition of the so -called “photographic styles” does not support. They enable extensive, reversible reacting of colors and contrast scope-one of the most serious changes for iPhone photographers in recent years. The 16E also lacks its own camera button.
USB-C without display port
In order to use the diverse and useful Magsafe accessories, 16E buyers have to switch to corresponding covers or stick strange magnetic rings to the back of the iPhone. Wireless charging is therefore only slowly possible – with a maximum of 7.5 watts. After all, quick charging is supported via USB-C. The port is limited to USB-2 speeds, which is no different with the iPhone 16. However, according to the data sheet, the 16E also dispenses with the display port support that is otherwise common at iPhones, so it cannot control external monitors or screens.
These radio interfaces are missing from the 16e
In contrast to the iPhone 16, the iPhone 16e lacks two radio interfaces, namely thread and ultra-line tape: While thread could only be interesting in the future for interaction with certain smart home equipment, ultra-line tape (UWB) already provides added value in everyday life-at least For users who often want their keys (with Airtag) and want to locate them in the area in the centimeter. In the long run, UWB is also likely to ensure more comfort in the case of networked door locks and digital car breaks. The iPhone 16E also does not speak to the wider 6 GHz band that supports many new WLAN routers (WLAN 6E and WLAN 7).

Buyers of the iPhone 16E are also early testers of Apple's first in -house mobile modem “C1”. So far, the manufacturer has primarily promised an efficiency gain. This is also the possible trump card of the iPhone 16E, because it should offer a longer battery life than the iPhone 16. How big the difference in everyday life actually turns out must first show tests and user experiences, which also applies to reliability and performance of the mobile phone connection with Apple C1 .
First benchmarks
First with Benchmarks carried out show that the A18 processor in the 16E in processor core and clocks corresponds to the A18 of the iPhone 16. There are 8 GB of RAM in both model series, the minimum for Apple Intelligence. The 16e GPU has four instead of five cores, the results of the graphic benchmark are therefore a good 10 percent lower than the iPhone 16.
The iPhone 16e thus plays in a particularly tricky segment of the smartphone market: it is far too expensive for beginners and deal hunters but at the same time much too close to the top models-especially at the current prices, for example on the German market, the grip on the iPhone seems 16 usually significantly more sensible. It remains to be seen whether and when the trade significantly undercuts the 700 euro brand of the iPhone 16E.
