iPad: original spare parts available for end customers

Apple extends its self -repair program for end customers: In addition to Macs and iPhones, the Self Service Repair Program (SSRP) also covers the iPad for the first time. End customers and free workshops can now be found in Apple Self-service repair store Order original spare parts and tools for the tablet. The manufacturer also provides repair instructions and access to special diagnostic software that also use authorized technicians. This means that repairs outside the guarantee can be done by the customer himself.

Only a few models

In the past, Apple has not repaired defective iPads in the store in the stores, but exchanged it for equivalent devices. The fact that the group now offers individual components for exchange is a step in terms of repairability.

Displays, batteries, charging lenses and camera modules can be ordered as spare parts. Main boards or sensors for face and touch ID cannot be ordered in the spare parts shop. According to Apple, the spare parts are available from May 29th.

However, Apple only offers the self-repair for selected tablets: For example, parts for the iPad Pro M4, the iPad Air with M2 or M3, the iPad Mini with A17 Pro and the normal iPad with A16 chip. Owners of older Apple tablets can only have the devices repaired by Apple workshops and authorized service providers.

Extended trade with original parts

In addition to Apple’s own self-service repair store, the spare parts can be also order from third -party providers in the futurethat specialize in the spare parts sale. Free workshops that have not yet cooperated with Apple should also be easier to get spare parts. Apple cooperates in the USA with dealers such as Mobilestrix, and MobileParts.Shop is also part of it in Europe. According to Apple, original spare parts for the iPad are also available from third -party providers from May 29th.

Apple has launched the Self Service Repair Program 2022 in the USA. It also started in Germany at the end of 2022. The manufacturer is expanding the program in several countries, and in summer Canada is said to be a 34th country. It now covers all Macs with arm chips, on top of that the iPhones from the 12th, the studio display and the beats Pill.

Financially, the program is only interesting for customers, the spare parts prices are based on those of the Apple Store. If you add working hours, you rarely save something. The SSRP is aimed primarily at experienced hobbyists who want to repair their devices themselves.
